Government Introduces Measures to Address Practical GST Implementation Challenges
The Indian government has initiated new directives through the Cabinet Secretary to ensure effective on-ground implementation of GST. Ministries are now responsible for monitoring price hikes, commodity shortages, software issues, and trader complaints. This move establishes a grassroots reporting mechanism, requiring weekly reports to address challenges during the GST transition period.
Government Initiatives for GST Implementation Oversight
The Cabinet Secretary, P.K. Sinha, has released new instructions to all central ministries, mandating them to monitor the practical application of Goods and Services Tax (GST). These instructions require ministries to observe potential issues such as price increases, commodity shortages, software malfunctions, and complaints from traders. Additionally, ministers are obligated to submit weekly reports by Sunday. This decision by the Cabinet aims to establish a fundamental reporting system for difficulties encountered during the GST transition phase, as reported by Economic Times.
